EMI calculator: plan loan repayments with clarity
An Equated Monthly Instalment (EMI) is the fixed amount you repay to a lender each month until the loan is closed. Whether you are evaluating a personal loan, home loan, or car loan, knowing the EMI upfront helps you align borrowing with income, savings goals, and your broader Zomint financial plan.
This calculator uses the standard reducing-balance EMI formula. Enter the loan amount, annual interest rate, and tenure to see monthly EMI, total interest, total repayment, and a year-wise principal vs interest breakdown.
Factors that affect your EMI
- Loan amount: A higher principal increases EMI unless tenure or rate changes.
- Interest rate: Even a small rate change can materially affect total interest over long tenures.
- Loan tenure: Longer tenure lowers EMI but usually increases total interest paid.
EMI formula used
EMI = [P × R × (1+R)^N] / [(1+R)^(N-1)], where P is principal, R is the monthly interest rate, and N is the number of monthly instalments. Zomint applies this formula consistently across personal, home, and car loan scenarios.
